Yellow Submarine Party

Jack turned one and had his first birthday party on Sat. May 29.  It was a Yellow Submarine themed party.  We had it at Route 66 Park by Lake Overholser and it was HOT!  Summer is definitely here.  The park is really nice- we had the party in a covered picnic shelter next to the pond.  The kids had a blast feeding the ducks and playing at the playground.  We also had some Frisbees, bubbles, etc they had fun with.  All the kiddos were sweaty with red cheeks- I think that’s a sign they were playing hard and enjoying themselves.

Birthday Boy!

We served giant submarine sandwiches, goldfish crackers and chips and fruit.  We sang “Happy Birthday” and had a fantastic Yellow Submarine cake, done by my high school friend Leslie Grove.  She also make Jack a little yellow octopus for his smash cake, which he loved.  He immediately dug right in and started eating.  He really didn’t get too messy, but he really did love the cake.  Afterwards, Jack opened his presents (he really sat there while I opened them- he doesn’t quite get the whole opening presents thing yet) and got some really great toys, clothes and books.  We’re thankful for such great friends that generously gave Jack so many fun playthings.

Cake is Good!

In all, it was a great day.  I think most of the kiddos did great considering the heat and the lack of naps.  We had about 16 kids there, plus their parents and more friends- a huge crowd of friends who all love Jack and wanted to celebrate his first year.  Nothing better than that!
