Funny things Jack said today:

He was coughing on the way home from school and said:
“Mama, I coughing. I need go to doctor.” Ha! What 2 year old asks to go to the doctor?!

We were visiting my grandparents tonight, and Jack and Granny were laying on the floor, doing Thomas puzzles on the iPod (ok, that sentence cracked me up- Granny was laying on the floor, and was working on a iPod!! Ha!). I laid down beside him to watch and he sat up and pointed to the couch and said, “No, Mama. You go over there. Go eat. Go away!” He sure told me. I guess he was enjoying some time with Granny.

And, something sweet:
As we were loading up in carseats, Luke was tired and probably hungry and was fussing. As I got Jack in, Luke was still fussing and I heard Jack telling him, “I know, Wookie. It’s okay, Wookie,”

I’m so proud of my sweet, smart, funny Jack. Each day he makes me laugh, melt, beam with pride, thank God for him, and, yes, sometimes cry. He is amazing and I can only hope Luke will turn out just as well.

Sometimes I feel like I failed with my day, like I need a redo. I didn’t get all the things done at work I wanted to, I didn’t get all the laundry done, I didn’t find time to workout (ha! I haven’t done this in a couple of years!)- just like I didn’t do enough! But then, I go pick the boys up from daycare, I am reminded that those things are insignificant to what does matter- that those two boys think I’m the greatest thing in the world. Luke gets so excited when I walk in his classroom, he jumps around, waves his arms and starts smiling and laughing. Jack drops whatever he is doing, runs to me screaming “MAMA!” He tells anyone who will listen, “that’s my mama!”as he hugs me tight and gets a little possessive if the other kids get too close to me.

All of a sudden, those other things that I didn’t do absolutely do not matter. Laundry, work, chores- it will always be there. I gave it all up tonight to enjoy my boys. Luke was in a fantastic mood- full of happiness, laughs, giggles and play. Jack played with Luke, played with his cars and went to bed without a fight. Maybe I didn’t fail today after all…

I ordered some fabric and it arrived today. (This makes me laugh because I cannot even get my sewing machine threaded correctly, so I find it hilarious that I actually thought I could make my own curtains, but that’s another post!) When I pulled it out the package, Jack looked at it and said, “That’s for Luke?” I set it aside and went about the evening. Later, Luke and I were sitting on Jack’s bed as he played with his cars. Luke was getting a little fussy so I asked Jack to give Luke a toy. He looked at me for a second, so I asked him again to get Luke a toy. He said, “Okay!” and hopped up and ran out of the room. He came back with that bolt of fabric, and proudly presented it to his brother. “Here Wukie!” Oh, poor Luke. Jack already won’t share his toys with him, and tries to make him play with fabric. Sorry, Luke. We’ll work on him..

Jack was playing with the iPad again tonight. This was some kind of game where you have blocks with numbers or colors or something, and you as you have matching blocks, you touch them and make them move as other blocks are falling…Jack was playing and i kept hearing him say, “No more boovs.” I had no idea what he was saying, until I really started watching. Once all the moves have been exhausted, the game stops and a message pops up- “No move moves.” Apparently Chris had been telling him that at the end of each game. So, Jack plays and belts out “no more boovs” when the game is over, before touching to restart. Seriously, can this kid get any smarter or more adorable? Well, this came after Luke had a long crying fit and Jack was extremely whiny and demanding. I’m glad we got past that part of the night and ended on a great note of cuteness!

I enjoyed a night out with the girls. We went to a Mexican restaurant on the lake for a painting session with Wine & Palette. An instructor walks you through creating your own masterpiece. This was my second class and it was so much fun. Everyone is painting the same thing, but it’s amazing how different they all turn out. The painting is fun, but the company is even better! What a fun girls night out! I sent Chris a picture of my work after I was done and Jack saw it and said, “Mommy made a mess!” Thanks, Jack!

When I got home, Chris and Jack were sitting on the couch. Jack was playing on the iPad. He was building things in the Lego app- for ages 4 and up! What a genius! He built vehicles and things, then made them go. He was having a blast, and I was very impressed with his building abilities. The pieces are laid out and you have to move them to the correct spot- like a puzzle. He is so smart (really, I think he is. I’m not just saying that)… So proud of my little boy.

We spent all of Sunday morning cleaning the house to get ready for the Stella & Dot party I was hosting. The party was a blast but even better was a clean house! Our house has been a disaster for so long- cluttered, messy and a little dusty. So happy to finally have it all picked up and clean. Hope it stays this way!

We tried to take the boys, plus Eli, to see Spaghetti Eddie. He is an awesome children’s musician. They did great for a song or two, before Jack started rolling around on the floor, flinging his McQueen car and saying he wanted to go home. Too close to naptime, I guess. He often acts older than 2 that sometimes I forget that he is just a little guy. We have learned when it’s time to go so we left the show after just 30 minutes. I so want the boys to enjoy things like this, just as I did as a kid, but maybe Jack just isn’t quite old enough. Luke, on the other hand, loved it! He bopped his little head around and definitely enjoyed the music!

Today, I enjoyed an afternoon off from work. I had some down time and enjoyed my most favorite treat- a pedicure! So nice to be pampered for a little bit. I need one of those massage chairs in my house. It was glorious. Then, enjoyed family pizza night. 4 kids, 5 adults, pizza and chaos…I was quickly brought back to reality and so very thankful for the me time I enjoyed.

Just when I start to get annoyed, those boys do something so sweet that I can’t help but quickly get over what I was getting irritated over. As soon as we got home from school, Luke started fussing, then crying so I went to the kitchen to get his bottle. Jack, of course, decided he wanted chocolate milk right at that moment- no patience with that kid. I was trying to get both things made when I noticed Jack had picked up my iPhone from the coffee table (not uncommon). He ran his little finger along the screen very quickly, then stopped and held the phone up to Luke to show him. A picture, of course- Jack’s favorite thing to look at on the phone. Then I heard it,
“Wookie, see, that’s Chuck E Cheese.” slide, slide, slide “There’s Eli. Wookie, see Eli?” slide, slide ”ohh, there’s my McQueen car. See?” slide, slide, slide, slide “Oh, it’s my haircut. See my haircut, Wookie?”

And so it continued on. Jack was showing Luke all his favorite photos and telling him all about them. Such funny, sweet little moments between those two that make all the whining, crying, defiance, etc absolutely worth it.

I have some of the funniest conversations of my day with my two year-old. We upgraded Jack to a booster carseat and Luke is getting Jack’s current seat (another hand-me-down- sorry, Luke. Get used to them). I thought it would be fun to show Jack his new seat so he isn’t totally confused when he has to sit in it tomorrow morning.

Me: Jack, do you want a new carseat?
Jack: Ohhh, yeah! We’re going to Target!!
Me: No, buddy- I already have your new seat. Look, here it is. Want to sit in it?
Jack: Yeah! (sits down) I want to get my shoes (because he thinks he gets to go somewhere)

He then sat in the living room floor, buckled into his new booster chair, for a good 10 minutes.
